President’s Message 30 November 2016

I was impressed by the calibre of students who are representing the club in Fiji. Kellie Kadoui assisted by Rod Bramich has done a wonderful job of putting together the “Paying it Forward” project and selecting the young people. The club is fully supportive of the initiative and will continue our involvement next year. Clive Peters talk on the Foundation and grants was a timely reminder of how important it is to support the Foundation even from the aspect of giving the club the ability to continue to apply for and receive grants from the district.

By all reports the open gardens on the weekend were successful. Bradley & Kerryn’s on Saturday had approx. 450 people through and raising near $2500 for the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund while on Sunday despite the weather Gordon and Leanne’s garden had up to 150 visitors with around $1500 be raised for the for the Sanctuary Refugee Group. Having Gary Treeve as our speaker was a great lead up to Remembrance Day. While the day refers to WW1 it is a good day to remember all those who served up to the present time. For me it was also a time to remember all my family & friends that have passed.

Great work again by Barry with River of Stories. Large crowd, eager writers, proud parents and teachers and lots of smiles. Much appreciation to our sponsors and partners (Albury City, Hume Bank, Commercial Club & Dymocks Books). Kate de Hennin’s update on Albury 2030 was informative and as a member of the original planning group I was particularly pleased to see it still in operation.

President’s Message

G’Day All, The feedback regarding the change-over was very positive and thank you to the organising committee that did a wonderful job. The entertainment was enjoyable and a credit to the talented members in the club. I offer a  heartfelt thank you for all your support. It was fantastic to have D.G. Richard Luke and his wife Lorna come all the way from Melbourne just for the occasion and it shows the high regard he has for the club. My theme of Love the Game struck a chord with so many that I thought that I should share the full saying for all members, To play the game is Good,  To win the game is Better,  To love the game is Best of All.

It was Juliette’s last time with the club and I presume that her farewell on Thursday morning was full of tears and we will miss her infectious smile. To all those club members going through tough times at the moment I can speak for the whole club and say we are thinking of you and will give you all the support we can. The Winter Solstice evening was a huge success thanks to Vicki and her helpers. The sale of food raised approx. $1100 which will be split between the club and the Survivors of Suicide group…. Regards Dennis

President’s Message

Last Wednesday (18 May) I attended the Charles Sturt University Scholarship award ceremony. There were over 30 scholarships presented.  On behalf of our club I presented scholarships to two students studying for a Bachelor of Education. They were Holly Turner and Jenna Zamperoni. The ceremony is a great example of local organizations supporting university education in our district.

Holly Turner …“Being the first in my immediate family to attend university, I am leading the path for my three younger siblings, demonstrating the importance of working hard, and persisting to achieve my dreams. This award will significantly help me financially. I was recently working two jobs, however, I left my job in hospitality as I wanted to allow myself more time to study, and really focus the majority of my time and attention on my degree. Now only having one job, I have been struggling financially as my busy university schedule only allows me to work a short number of hours. This prize will assist me to pay for textbooks and amenities. Please let my donor know how grateful I am for their help.”

Jenna Zamperoni …“This prize came as quite a surprise! It is with gratitude that I accept it, not only for the financial assistance that it will provide during professional experience, but also for the honour it has given me to be a recipient of the prize from the Rotary Club of Albury-Hume. It will assist me during my final placements during which I won’t be able to work. Thus it will help with my rent, travel costs and other living expenses while I am on placement. This has enabled me to feel a boost of confidence and determination, as my academic engagement and commitment looks to be rewarding me! It has encouraged me to continue to work hard in my studies to make my university, family and myself proud. I would like the Rotary Club to know that I am very grateful for being awarded this prize. I would also like them to know that as a prospective educator, I endeavour to positively influence the children of our generation and of future generations. I am passionate about providing quality education, as well as aspire to show children that they have the power to accomplish their dreams.”
