President’s Message

Scatter Evening Just another   reminder that there will be NO meeting at the SS&A Club this coming   Wednesday and instead members are requested to attend other Rotary Clubs   meetings this week if possible.  If you   can make it to other Clubs then please observe their procedures compared to   ours and the following week we will gather back at SS&A as normal and   have another Club Assembly meeting whereby you can advise and comment as to   whether  what you observed is something   which our Club could consider doing or whether we as a Club , or you as a   member are currently satisfied with what we are doing.

Howards BBQ next   Sunday Also don’t forget   if you haven’t yet advised Howard or myself that you will be coming along to   the BBQ he and Debra are holding for club members and other participants   taking part in the Kitende Project, then please advise by Wednesday evening   of this week.  It promises to be a   lovely get-together, so come along and relax in lovely surroundings.

‘Valentines Day’   Dinner. Another opportunity   for a Club social ‘get-together’, with a Dinner/Wine function at La Maison on   Valentines night. A delightful menu has been arranged by Wassim to compliment   the various complexities of  Stanton   and Killeen wines. Wendy and her son Simon will be in attendance to advise   about the various wines we will be sipping that evening. Price $80 per person   for a guaranteed lovely evening.    Acceptances to Nicole or myself please by 3rd February   2013. If there are insufficient numbers from our Club then it has been agreed   to extend the offer to other local Rotary Clubs to see if they would like to   come along as well.

Australia Day My thanks to all   members who worked the BBQ on Saturday at Noreuil Park. I’m not sure who did   the ‘cooking’ on the early shift, but Graham Maddox and Terry certainly did   heroic work working the BBQ on the later shift. It was also a good induction   to Vicky Gray on her first club BBQ function. Don’t worry Vicky, they aren’t   all as hectic as that.

Club Meeting 9 January 2013

President Pete’s Postbag: Dinner for Romantics … As we had previously advised you, the Club is holding a Dinner for Romantics for Valentines Night at La Maison. Wendy Killeen and Wassim are designing a lovely evening of food and matching wines. The format of the evening will be … A sparkling  wine to greet guests. A lovely three course dinner with the matching wines to compliment the meal. The description of the composition and complexity of the wines will be described to us by Wendy or her son Simon. Price: $80 per head. A list will be circulated very shortly re members attending. Seating will be for approximately 60 persons. An invitation will be issued to neighbouring Rotary Clubs at the beginning of February should there be insufficient take up from Albury

Club Meeting 5 December 2012

President’s Message: On Sunday four members of our Club attended a District initiative Rotary Leaders Club at Euroa. It was Part 1 of a three part course, basically covering all forms of Rotary work and involvement within District and RI activities. The members who attended were President Nominee and Secretary, Justin Clancy, Treasurer Dennis Martin, Vocational Services Director Dan Sawyer and President Elect Nicole. As you will have noted all are on next year’s Board of Directors and with their individual skills, current and future knowledge this can only be of benefit to the future workings of the club. Nicole looks as though she will have a highly knowledgeable and ‘go ahead’ Board until her control next July. Beside the Rotary Leaders Course candidates, she also has four Past Presidents as part of the make-up. Exciting times are definitely ahead.

Vale – Graham Irons

Graham was proposed for membership by PP Max Blomeley and was inducted into Albury Hume Rotary Club on the 7th January 1996. At that time he was the manager of the Green Tree Hotel. Sometime later Graham and his partner Helen brought the Seaton Arms Motel. Graham always made his facilities available for Rotary functions and many memorable events were held at the Seaton Arms including Changeovers, social nights and Christmas functions. Members also met there for drinks each Friday night with many stopping on for dinner. Graham resigned from Rotary following being appointed to the board of The Golden Chain Group as that position took up a lot of his time. He remained in that position until his death. Graham will be missed by all who knew him.

Club Meeting 21 November 2012

President’s Message: What wonderful news from Howard regarding the go ahead for Kitende School project in Tanzania. It doesn’t seem all that long ago that Debra and family were giving us a club presentation about the school and its forlorn state, followed by another presentation by Sianga, a Massai Warrior – do you remember him Anne?-‐ about how the tribe lives and survives etc. Now it’s all systems go for early 2013 start. Not only that but I understand that it is also a first ever international project for the Club. Wonderful news indeed.

Club Meeting 7 November 2012

President’s Message: After Howard’s updated information last week, I hope that you share with Howard, Terry and myself the excitement that our International project is really coming to fruition.  As stated at the meeting, Howard and Terry have put a tremendous amount of  background work into this, and whilst not all of it has materialised as one would wish , other ways have been found and everything is looking ready to go. We are still looking for just TWO more Club Class Sponsors willing and able to donate $310 per annum for two years to the project and then we’re off and running. If you are able to donate then please advise Howard or myself.

Did you know we have a Pastry Master Chef within the Club?  No, then let me acquaint you with him. It’s none other than our Mr. Graham Fuller.  Last week I was at a meeting whereby Graham was making a presentation and was showing his audience how to make a Harvey Wallbanger cake. It was an excellent visual and practical presentation. It was certainly very ‘hands on’. Afterwards the invited audience tasted a ‘Wallbanger’ cake he had made earlier. It was excellent and certainly had a ‘kick’ in it.  Not too surprising considering some of the liqueurs it had in it, and certainly not to be eaten by a ‘L’ or ‘P’ plater to then drive home. If there is sufficient space the recipe will be shown later in the Bulletin.

Thanks to all those who worked on the inaugural Diabetes Type 1 fund raiser at Hovell Tree Park a few weeks ago. We raised approximately $438 for the day and will present to them in a few weeks time for them to put toward their cause.

On Sunday I attended the District AGM, and sat in for the first part of the PETS training which is where all next years President Elects’ attend. Listening to next years  DG Elect, Phil Clancey – yes yet another Clancey – and the new District Training Officer, former DG David Anderson, I believe that they will be trying to bring additional  ideas and even additional training for all clubs through the Asst. DG and Club Presidents. Certainly seems as though it might be exciting and a possible ‘wind of change’ in the air.
