President’s Message

The Club and the   Albury and Wodonga  branches of   Bunnings are planning a joint exercise re the Community and placing a   permanent seat at a location overlooking Albury Tigers Football Ground.  The seat will be situated at Riverside Terrace, at the lower embankment level of the main road in a small recess.   Manufacturing clients of Bunnings will be supplying their products for use, e.g. Dulux for painting the road safety rail, their cement supplier for   concreting the seat to the ground etc. We have also cleared all ‘environmental’ requirements of Albury City Council, and there is   an excellent possibility of them supplying a new type recycled seat to go toward the project.

Each year  club members make a voluntary donation of approximately $100 toward the wonderful work undertaken on our behalf by RI. Each club is assessed on its annual contributions over a three year period when it makes application for various types of  grants

President’s Message

As I write this I am also thinking of the persons we all   delivered our Easter bags to last week. The gentleman I saw in Prune Street   was most appreciative and we spent about a quarter of an hour just chatting   away on his doorstep. I hope other members who delivered the bags also had an   enjoyable time passing on Easter cheer and happiness.  Also a big vote of thanks to Anne McNaught   and helpers who saved the day for us following Julie’s accident. Thanks too   for all members assisting with the deliveries. I trust members also had an enjoyable Easter break with   family and friends. Alison and I were joined for Easter Day by all our   offspring and in one instance, their offspring.

Hon. Michael Kirby Luncheon  Re our hosting this luncheon on 2nd May … we   are beginning to receive some acceptances from fellow Rotarians of nearby   clubs. Gordon will be forwarding a sheet at the next meeting to our members   advising whether they will be attending. A reminder the date is 2nd   May 2013 at Murray Gardens Retirement Village start approx. 12.30pm, and a   cost of $45 per person.

John McDonald Medical   Scholarship Awards  At this week’s   meeting, we will be presenting two Scholarship awards in the name of Past   President John McDonald. The recipients will be two ladies , one studying a   Post Graduate Medical Course at Uni of Queensland, and the other an   Undergraduate from Uni NSW. Their names are Loren Towall and Maddie Bullock   from Wodonga. We are also hopeful to have Margaret McDonald in attendance to   present the awards.

Easter Shut- Ins Remember that Anne would like some additional   assistance this   coming meeting to   help fill and label the Easter bags for us ALL to distribute to those in need   within Albury. If some members can be there from 12.00 noon onwards that would   be really good. Then one can take their bag away with them and   deliver it later on Wednesday or Thursday.  Also a big thankyou to Anne for filling the breach  caused by Julie’s incapacity.

District Conference   2014 Remember next year’s Conference is to be held at   Shepparton from 20th to 23rd March 2014 … start putting   entries into diaries so that one can attend at least the main day on the   Saturday, which is usually pretty full on. Good listening to the various club members last week   giving a ‘potted illustration’ re the various presentations from this year’s   Conference, and to those who could not attend I hope you enjoyed what you   heard and make that diary entry for next season.

Club Donations Whilst there isn’t a huge kitty to distribute this   year, please forward any suggestions re a local organisation(s) that might   benefit from a donation to help them along with the good work they do. It is proposed to distribute this money at the next   Board meeting in a few week’s time, so this is your last chance to get your   application/suggestions into Justin.

President’s Message 6 February 2013

Scatter Week  I hope that a majority of you were able to visit other local Rotarian Clubs last week as part of our Scatter Week exercise. Ian Harrison and myself visited the RC of Belvoir meeting in Wodonga and had a very enjoyable time. Amongst other things they had an excellent Speaker from the Education Department of CSU, and Ian asked if he could condense his near forty minute presentation into about twenty five, which he said he could do, so Ian has hopefully forwarded details to Roger to book him in. Other bits and pieces from the meeting will be advised during the Club Assembly part of this weeks meeting.

St. John Ambulance opening  Nice to see four members of our Club were able to make the opening of the new St John Ambulance building in Kiewa Street. Certainly a very nice building for them to now use as an office, instruction area etc.

Rotary Induction  All being well, it is proposed to hold the Induction of Nikki Grae into our Club. As you know Nikki is the Manager of the Albury Branch of Country Hope, and gave a presentation to us shortly after last years changeover.

Club Community donations The time has come for members to nominate any charity or association etc. that you would like the Board to consider making a donation to assist their work within the community. Nominations to be addressed to our Secretary, Justin by 16th February, so some consideration can be made at the next Board meeting.

RI Leadership Course  Toward the rear of the Bulletin is an advertisement advising the initial date of the next three part Rotary Leadership Course which is held on Sunday mornings at Euroa. I have now completed all the three sessions of the Course, and Justin, Nicole, Dennis, and Dan are now a third of the way through their course. I would strongly encourage any new members, and reasonably new members to nominate for it. It is full of networking opportunities, and gives excellent insight into how other clubs manage and ‘do’ things. At a Board meeting last year, the Directors agreed that the Club would pay for any member wishing to partake on the course, as it is good value for money in learning so much about Rotary and all its different offshoots. If anybody is interested then please contact me and I will hopefully enlighten you enough to go along. The course is usually run from 9.30am to 1pm as lunch is included.

District Conference – March 2013  If there are any members who have made bookings to attend the District Conference in Ballarat in March, and have made ‘private’ reservations, could you please advise Roger Snell so we can keep an accurate record of who is attending, and also possibly arrange a ‘social’ evening for ourselves away from official Conference business. It would be good to have a good attendance from the Club as it is usually an interesting weekend, and the women folk often enjoy ‘shopping’. Just remember don’t give them the credit card.! Also remember the special $50 rate being offered this year to members who are in their first year of Rotary. So please see if you can come and enjoy a weekend in Ballarat.
