President’s Message

An interesting presentation at last weeks meeting when the new DG made his annual visit to the club accompanied by his wife Helen. It was also very nice   to be able to confirm to Helen  that we   are going to be embarking upon an excellent fund raising project for the maternity unit at Wodonga Hospital, and the project falls within the remit of her project for the Rotary year of Baby and Child Health.

It is with regret that I have to inform members that following a meeting I had last week with Nikki Grae that she has subsequently submitted her Letter of Resignation from Rotary. Our meeting was most amicable, but her current work commitments with Country Hope make it virtual impossible to make Wednesday meetings or the weekend duties. Nikki advises she would like to reapply if her circumstances permit.

Following a lengthy conversation late last week with the Rotary Chair re allocation of District Grants, I am hopeful we have secured two grants for the Club within the current Rotary Year. If they come off, they will be for our International Tanzanian project at Kitende School and Medical Centre, and the second might be toward the great work undertaken by Barry re River of Stories, so fingers crossed

Rotary Leadership Course

I have received notification of the dates   for the next Rotary Leadership Institute course to be held at Euroa Secondary   School, Euroa on:

Sunday    25th August 2013;                        Sunday    6th  October 2013;                 Sunday    8th December 2013

Because of its value, especially to new   members, your Board approved last year instigated as a matter of Club Policy,   that any member who wished to attend and complete the Course will have the   cost of the actual course paid for them. As stated members who are new to the   Club would probably find great value attending the Course, in that it covers   many aspects of Rotary work, and the opportunity to gain new ideas and networking   opportunities from attending Rotarians from other District 9790 clubs. The   course runs from 9am to 1.30pm and this includes a light luncheon should you   wish to stay on after the actual course session finishes at 1pm.

The penultimate Bulletin of this first year as your President. The time has gone so quickly and really has been highly enjoyable and I hope enjoyable for yourselves as well. It has been a full on year, and I hope that next year will be just as exciting for us all. As in all things where human membership is involved, no club can perform without a Board of Directors and I am so grateful to my Board for this year and all   the work they have done to make the year zing. Also the various Committees which operate for all the different activities we perform within Rotary for the benefit of the community. My thanks to you all for all the work you do. Also many thanks  to all those other members who do such great work ‘ behind the scenes’. Whether it be rosters, putting Rotary insignia out and store away after our meetings etc. I am hopeful that within the Board we are getting our newer and younger members more closely involved and that will continue with the addition of Vickki Gray added to next year’s Board. Then within a few years time they will take the Club forward, whilst us older folk, can just watch and advise if so requested.

On Sunday I attended the District DG’s Changeover Luncheon at Kilmore. Besides an excellent lunch, it was very interesting listening to part of the incoming DG’s plans for his year in office. They are quite different with a strong emphasis upon all forms of improved communication, including electronic media, and the strong possibility of localised training if requested.  Also many congratulations to our outgoing Asst. District Governor, Terry Simmonds, who was awarded by current DG John Gatt a  PHF ‘Sapphire’  for his three years hard work as one of our  ADG’s. Congratulations again Terry, and good luck to Steve McKewen who takes over from you from 1st July.

The club had a busy   weekend with the usual Harvey Norman BBQ, and some members and their partners doing Alcohol Control duties at Wendy Killeen’s Winery over at Rutherglen. Thank you once again Wendy for offering the club the opportunity to increase its community funds by letting us work at your winery for the Winery Walkabout weekend. At least the weather was kinder to everyone as compared to the previous weekend.  At last weeks’ club   meeting we were able to welcome back Nicole Doughty.

Around late August, the District will be running the first of three District Rotary Leadership courses at Euroa. Courses usually run from 9.30 to 1pm when one disperses after a provided light lunch. Four members of the Club attended earlier courses this year and feedback is that they are highly informative especially for newer members. Not only does one get the opportunity of learning much more about the Rotary movement and various activities, but also gives the member the opportunity to hear how other clubs operate,  besides the opportunity to network.

President’s Message

Another very busy weekend re Club activities on behalf of the community. On Friday evening Club members gave   up their time to attend to Midnight Basketball duties, then on Saturday Dan   Sawyer and Roger Beardwell spent the day interviewing various applicants for the Youth Exchange program. Dan has advised that one of the successful   applicants was a student from Xavier College, and he may well enlighten you all further at Wednesday’s club meeting.  Sunday was taken up with a dozen members  doing various duties at the  RSPCA Million Paws Walk, which is always an enjoyable duty to perform, with a lot of laughs and banter going on between the members. It will be very interesting to see just how much input we have given to the community in the new way Rotary now calculate our measures. Many congratulations go to Wendy  Killeen who has won a swag of highly prestigious awards in UK for her winery’s Fortifieds.
