President’s Message

If you go onto the Club’s facebook page you will see that there have been several posts from Club Members Rod & Kellie with this year’s “Paying it Forward” team. It looks like they have all settled in well with their Fijian Village on one of the Yasawa Islands where they are helping with the re-painting of some of the community buildings.

Last week I talked about the meeting with Stuart Gordon Landscaping and Albury City to discuss the plans for a memorial area at Brown’s Lagoon. This week I will be talking about the fact that it is done. PP Dennis has been keeping a close eye on the proceeding this week sending us a photo of the completed project on Friday. We are planning to have our last meeting of the year at the site so we can all get a good look at it and early in the new year we will arrange the placing of a plaque. A big thank you to all those involved but especially PP Dennis for his drive on this project, Peter Lee for arranging the funds from Foundation and Albury City for their grant of $6,500.

RYLA

Below is Angela Larkin’s review of the RYLA Course she attended recently. Angela is also “paying it forward” by volunteering to assist with the RYPEN course in early 2017.

Hi, I’m Angela Larkin and I was your Albury Hume Rotary Club RYLA representative at the 2016 conference. The conference was very diverse and holistic, covering a wide range of topics including leadership, teamwork, goal-setting, conflict resolution, project management and public speaking. RYLA was extremely professional and impressive, the program has done Rotary extremely proud. I certainly urge you to continue supporting the conference in the coming years as it was an incredibly valuable and life changing experience for myself and the other RYLArians. I can honestly say RYLA has positively changed my life in a way that I never thought possible. Since completing RYLA, a number of doors have opened for me and I have been inspired to begin writing and speaking about my life experiences, and overall life happiness and success. The RYLA conference was a fantastic opportunity to challenge myself and learn an enormous amount about myself and others. I have made many great connections with other young people, connections I’m sure I will have for years to come.  I would like to say a huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Albury Hume for the opportunity to be your RYLA representative this year, I am looking forward to sharing my experience at one of your meetings in the New Year.

President’s Message 30 November 2016

I was impressed by the calibre of students who are representing the club in Fiji. Kellie Kadoui assisted by Rod Bramich has done a wonderful job of putting together the “Paying it Forward” project and selecting the young people. The club is fully supportive of the initiative and will continue our involvement next year. Clive Peters talk on the Foundation and grants was a timely reminder of how important it is to support the Foundation even from the aspect of giving the club the ability to continue to apply for and receive grants from the district.

RYLA

Angela Larkin has been nominated by Albury Hume to attend the upcoming RYLA Seminar on our behalf … Angela introduced herself at our meeting last week. “ I Grew up in Albury and attended Xavier High School and am about to commence my last semester of university, studying a Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management) with Charles Sturt University. I have been involved in volunteering with the St Vincent de Paul Society over the past 5 years and am looking forward to experiencing RYLA.
