OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAGuest Speaker Mathew Poppins  presented us with an interesting overview of Freemasonry and its  operation, the cross-section of membership and also gave us an indication of the community work in which most Lodges are involved.  A powerpoint presentation further detailed the complexities of Freemasonry, however, Mat assured us of the benefits he has experienced during his long association with Freemasonry.

Milspec is a Albury-based high-class engineering company that specialise in the design & manufacture of a number of high quality (and technical !) products for contracted clients. David explained that Milspec are involved in component manufacture rather than the finished product of what is regarded as preventative defence material. They are one of Australia’s few manufacturers that have obtained an AS9100 Accreditation. Milspec are a reliable supplier of high quality Wiring Harnesses, Alternators and Subsystems to a number of Defence companies for the use in Military Vehicles, the NULKA (Aboriginal for ‘be quick’) Program and Live Fire Target Ranges, working closely with BAE defence Systems … the company is held in high regard within the industry.

Stephen O'Connell 2Guest Speaker  Stephen O’Connell. Albury-Hume member Stephen has been a committed professional musician and composer for over 30 years and is highly active as a touring musician and recording artist. He has toured, played and recorded with many well-known artists including Ross Wilson, Phil Manning (Chain), Eugene “Hideaway” Bridges, Steve Arvey, Kamahl, Rolf Harris, Four Kinsmen and JW Jones.  Stephen has a broad background and training in classical music traditions and has specialized in the fields of jazz, blues, funk, rock and pop with extensive recording and live experience. He has written many pieces of music in response to the amazing environment of the Central Australian Outback. Further, Stephen has been commissioned to write pieces for major music institutions, the 2000 Olympic Torch Relay and has had pieces published in the Australian Piano and Australian Saxophone Anthologies. He is published by Wirripang.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAGuest Speaker, Gwenda Howard: Gwenda is the regional co-ordinator for Knitted Knockers Australia operating mainly in the Albury Wodonga area, but also covering numerous towns in the surrounding areas up to and including Cudgewa, Myrtleford, Beechworth  and everything in between and starting in Corowa early in 2015. Gwenda spoke to us last week about the growing popularity and requirement of the Knitted Knockers, a free cotton prosthetics – which come complete with a nipple feature –designed as a light and soft design that mimics the shape and feel of real breasts … of great comfort to women recovering from Breast Cancer surgery. The KK organisation is widespread throughout the world and one of her breast cancer survivors is currently in the process of introducing Knitted Knockers into the Netherlands. Gwenda is always looking for volunteer knitters, also more people prepared to act as co-ordinators in their local area. At the conclusion of her address President Justin presented Gwenda with a cheque for $250.00.
