This Week’s Guest Speaker … Belinda Wolk has worked at Albury & District for almost two years now. My role started as full time reception and progressed into admissions coordinator. I find my job very rewarding and I love meeting and greeting so many beautiful families. The staff and residents make the job very interesting. It’s a pleasure to work with such caring, kind, compassionate, empathetic & professional staff. Albury & District is a 90 bed facility located at the top end of Logan Road on the old Hume Country Golf ground. The original facility was located in David Street Albury before relocating to the new building in June 2014. Albury & District have been offering care to local residents for over 30 years. Albury & District offer single, double & platinum rooms all with private ensuite, fine dining and beautiful surroundings with enclosed courtyards. 24 hour registered nursing. Safe care unit, multipurpose room (theatre & chapel). Our lifestyle person centred activities program runs 7 days per week. Club Meeting 18 November 2015
Guest Speaker, Andrew Cottrill has lived and worked on the border in a variety of roles for more than 15 years. As the inaugural Telstra Country Wide Area General Manager for more than 10 years, Managing Director at National IT and telecommunications company Anittel, and more recently as the Economic Development Team Leader at Albury City. Andrew has broad experience in telecommunications and technology, and looks to leverage such technologies in attracting investment and jobs growth to Albury and the border region. Andrew spoke on the recent findings of the Albury Wodonga Business Survey, and provided an overview on NBN rollout plans for Albury.

Guest Speaker Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Hunter OAM RFD (Retd) lives in Albury and spoke about Albury at War 1914-1919. He served with the CMF in Australia and PNG from 1956 to 1987. As a mature aged student he gained a BA majoring in history, and a BLitt (Hons) in strategic studies. He is the immediate past president of the Albury & District Historical Society, a trustee of the Victorian Mounted Rifles Regimental Collection (Light Horse Museum) and a member of the Military Historical Society of Australia. His book ”Albury at War 1914-1919’ was released in April this year.

Guest Speaker Kathleen Howard.… As a qualified secondary Maths and Science teacher Kathleen is also an experienced mediator and has trained as an assistant teacher in ‘Vipassana’ tradition. She has been teaching meditation techniques since 2012. In 2014, with her husband, Ian, she started “Mediate, Laugh, Relax” as a local business helping people to overcome stress and enjoy lifelong peace and happiness. With a little encouragement Kathleen succeeded in involving us in a number of exercises producing some relaxing laughter to conclude the meeting.

Guest Speaker Hugh Satchell presented some details of the 2014 Watts MND Bike Challenge in which he took part last year. The challenge was over 300km per day for 4 days and raised $100,000 for the Motor Neuron Disease Research Institute of Australia (MNDRIA).
