Our club members were certainly busy this weekend as we had the River of Stories prize presentations, a Harvey Norman BBQ and Music in the Gardens. River of Stories is an ongoing success for the club and is a real credit to Barry Young, who has led the project for many years. I was honoured to present the prizes to a talented group of young writers and look forward to seeing how they go in future years. It was gratifying to see the level of support given to river of Stories by Hume Bank, AlburyCity and Dymocks. Thanks to all of those who volunteered for the BBQ rosters and also to those who attended the prize giving ceremony at the Library Museum. I would also like to make special mention of David Gordon, who gave up his time to be our official photographer for the River of Stories event. Bravo to all!
Please remember that this week’s meeting will be held at Brown’s Lagoon as we officially open our Club’s Reflection area. This promises to be a memorable event, complete with entertainment. Please arrive at 12.30pm, with entertainment due to commence at 12.45. Food will be prepared by Julie, who as usual is demonstrating the motto of service above self! Also, many thanks to Roger Lescun, David Gordon and Dennis Martin for all they have done for this worthwhile project.
Pieter Mol’s presentation about the history of the UIVER was very interesting. The involvement of Rotary over many years has been one of the main drivers of this restoration project. The aircraft was purchased in 1979 by the Rotary Club of Albury West, which in turn enabled all that has happened since.
